Model Spotlight: Jennifer "Mz. Goldie" Tucker (The Curvy Styler By Jchell)

I was delighted to have the chance to interview Plus Size in the City-Atlanta model Jennifer “Mz. Goldie” Tucker. She has not been in the modeling game that long, but she is making great strides in her career. To learn more about Mz. Goldie check out her interview.

Jchell: Where are you from?
Mz. Goldie: I’m from Canton, Georgia by way of New Jersey.

Jchell: Where did you attend high school/college?
Mz. Goldie: I graduated from Long Branch High School in Long Branch, New Jersey. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Marketing.

Jchell: What are some of your main interests and hobbies?
Mz. Goldie: Outside of modeling, I’m a crafter. I love to work with my hands and create. I am also an avid reader. I support the African-American author. It is what relaxes me and takes me out of myself.

Jchell: How long have you been modeling?
Mz. Goldie: I have been modeling for 3 years. It was something that I thought was never possible growing up. I have always been a plush child into adulthood. As a child, growing up in the Barbie era, all models looked like her. Models were pencil thin and Caucasian. When I moved to Georgia I was approached by a photographer and he helped me embrace my beauty.

Jchell: Besides modeling, have you done any acting?
Mz. Goldie: My resume is filling up slowly, but surely. Though I’ve never done any acting, I have been published in an online magazine called, Visions of Thickness and I have recently won the Plus Size in the City-Atlanta online model contest.

Jchell: Let’s talk about your beauty regimen. How do you keep your hair and skin looking healthy?
Mz. Goldie: My beauty regimen is really basic. I don’t use expensive or fancy products. I have sensitive skin, so I keep it simple. I wash my face with warm water (no soap). I moisturized with cold cream. Outside of bleaching my hair, I don’t use any other chemicals. I haven’t relaxed my hair in over 16 years. I do like to change my look, so I do wear weaves and wigs.

Jchell: What are your favorite fashion trends you love?
Mz. Goldie: I have a passion for fashion. I love to shop, shop, and shop some more…lol. I have a new passion for vintage clothing. I find that the pieces are classic and you can always keep them on trend. I have two go to pieces that I keep in my closet always. They are the denim jacket and the black skirt. With these two pieces you can never go wrong with a look, whether wearing them together or separately.

Jchell: Who is your favorite photographer(s)?
Mz. Goldie: I have worked with some great photographers. I don’t have a favorite photographer, because they all have different styles and visions. I have shot with Leonard Jones (L Jones Photography); Nigel Baker (Kushions Plus Photography); Corey Williams (Corey Wendell Photography); Bryant Andrews (Sky Love Images); Jonathan Herring, and L.A.’s Ken Morrison (Ken Morrison Photography).

Jchell: Do you currently or have any upcoming projects?
Mz. Goldie: I am embarking on some new endeavors in this year. I have started a modeling agency, J. Pierre Agency, with my partner, Pierre Hamilton. We wanted to start this agency to give exposure to what the industry considers the “super plus or extended size” woman. The plus size woman comes in all shapes and sizes and are beautiful. Though we all fall under the same umbrella, we still have discrimination within this demographic.

I have a desire for young ladies and women to find the confidence that they have in them. I want to encourage people to love themselves and empower themselves. Find their purpose and their passion. In doing this, I am developing a t-shirt line that promotes confidence. I will be debuting these shirts in the near future. I also have other projects that I am working on. So I am keeping myself busy.

Jchell: Knowing what you know, what advice would you give to other models trying to establish themselves?
Mz. Goldie: I still have a lot to learn in the modeling industry, but it has been very enjoyable. I would just tell anyone starting out, you must invest in yourself. By that, I mean, it can be costly and you must find time. You have to pay photographers, makeup artists, hairstylists, buy clothing, travel expenses, classes, etc. This list could go on and on. But if you are passionate about it, it won’t be a loss. You will put out more money than you get in return.
